Residential Care

Programs licensed by MRDDA to provide housing and services and, when appropriate, overnight support to individuals living in group homes or single family dwellings. The group home residential programs are operated by either MRDDA or provider agencies whose programs are certified by MRDDA. The single family setting could be in the form of foster care, or the “natural” home of the parent(s) or relative of the Consumer.

Day Programs

Day programs concentrate on daytime activities that provide a combination of diagnostic, active therapeutic treatment, rehabilitative, and vocational services to individuals with a developmental disability. The programs may vary in the services they offer based on the level of the consumer's needs, interests and preferences. A range of available day programs focus on providing the consumer with developmental disabilities the necessary personal, social and vocational supports needed to live a productive life in the community.

Clinical Services

Referral and monitoring programs which satisfy on-demand and scheduled requests for a wide variety of services including outpatient medical, dental, nutrition, physical therapy, speech therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychological, and psychiatric services. Also administered is the annual ISP (Individual Service Plan) which is an important part of each Consumer’s ongoing development.

Transportation

Transportation provides a consumer who is a client of MRDDA with the proper mode of transport between his or her Residential Care facility and any Day Programs in which they may participate.

Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF)

ICF provides a residential treatment option in the community for persons with specified medical and/or behavioral needs. ICFs provide 24-hour on-site assistance and training, intensive clinical and direct care services, professionally developed and supervised activities, and a variety of therapies. ICFs are designed for individuals whose disability severely limits their ability to be independent.

Quality Assurance (QA)

QA monitors the quality of the various types of services which are available to, and utilized by, the MRDDA consumer. Any issues, about the level of care, raised by the consumer, consumer provider or any third party are addressed by the QA group.

Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)

The Medicaid Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver provides residential and community-based options for persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia. The HCBS waiver allows Medicaid eligible individuals to either remain in their own homes or live in a community setting, rather than an institutional setting such as: a hospital, nursing home or intermediate care facility for the mentally retarded (ICF-MR).
