Washington's Wonderful Little Walks and Rolls (Palisades-Potomac Avenue)
High above the Potomac River
on the edge of the District line,
enjoy this little known stretch
of Potomac Avenue, NW.

Take MacArthur Boulevard north
from Georgetown, take a left on
Galena Place, proceed to Potomac
Avenue (about 3 blocks) and take
a right on Potomac.

From the corner of Galena and
Potomac to Norton Street (at the
water treatment facility) and
back is about one and one-half
miles.
Enjoy this wonderful street that
is, oddly enough, a better walk
in winter when the leaves are off
that in summer when the views across
the river aren't as good.

You can't see the river but you
do have a great view across the
river valley to Virginia.

The houses are an odd collection of
original cottages and bungalows and
huge modern ones.

The point of this walk is to soak
up the quiet atmosphere of this
quiet street so high above the
river.
The sidewalks are old but you don't need then. There is no traffic on the street. After Newark, there are no sidewalks, anyway.

Park anywhere you want in the neighborhood.
The best way to get there is to drive.

An alternative is to take any northbound MacArthur Avenue bus.
